Hand Tooled and Beaded Belt: The “HH9” Custom Heritage Piece
The “HH9” Hand Beaded Custom 1.5 inch wide belt is a stunning, one-of-a-kind piece that flawlessly blends traditional Western artistry with heirloom-quality materials. This belt is meticulously crafted from Hermann Oak vegetable-tanned leather, renowned worldwide for its superior quality, firm temper, and exceptional tooling characteristics.
KEY FEATURES AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
- Hermann Oak Leather Base: The foundation of the belt is made from premium, full-grain Hermann Oak leather. This USA-made leather is celebrated by saddle makers for its strength, tight grain, and ability to hold deep ,crisp tooling impressions, ensuring the belt will resist stretching and last a lifetime.
- Intricate Hand Tooling: The leather features extensive hand tooling. This work is not machine-pressed; each detail is individually stamped and cut by a skilled artisan. The tooling gives the belt a rich, dimensional texture.
- Hand-Woven Beadwork: A central feature of this custom piece is the hand-beaded strip inlay. The beadwork is woven on a loom using high-quality Miyuki beads for exceptional detail and durability. The “HH9” design is defined by its specific bead pattern, color palette, and length making it a truly unique accent. This strip is typically set and sewn into a recessed channel carved into the leather to protect the delicate beads.
- Finish: The leather is then hand-dyed, often using a rich, antiqued finish (like mahogany or dark brown) that brings out the contrast of the deep tooling, followed by burnished and finished edges for a smooth, comfortable feel.
This belt is not just an accessory; it’s a wearable piece of art that will develop a rich, personal patina over years of use, growing better and softer with age while retaining its strength and shape.
I use a very small size 15 seed bead. Each bead is put on a needle one by one and weaved on a loom by hand.
Size: Measure the belt you’re now using, measure from the hole being used to the fold line where the material is attached to the buckle (note do not measure to the end of the buckle). This measurement will give us the correct size, see the how to measure diagram shown in the pictures.
